30 Healthy and Frugal Meals That You Can Afford. - A Bountiful Love

30 Healthy and Frugal Meals That You Can Afford.

I used to think that eating healthy can be quite expensive. When I became a stay at home mom, I knew that the budget for groceries was the first one that needed to be adjusted. I honestly did a research on how to slash our grocery budget and bought several cookbooks that promised frugal meals. A few years ago, I watched the first episode of Extreme Couponing and I was amazed! Determined and inspired, I learned how to coupon.  While I will never be an extreme couponer,  couponing did save us a lot of moolah.

Using coupons on top of an already sale price or marked down item will greatly affect your grocery budget. Eating top ramen is definitely frugal however in the long run, investing in your health is still the best.  I am not dismissing semi-healthy meals because sometimes there are just those days that you just have to make do or make it through the next paycheck.

How can you eat healthy frugally?

1. As much as possible build your menu with what's on sale and in season. There is plenty of food that you can freeze. Check out 25 Freezer-Friendly Foods.
2. Serve meatless meals once or twice a week. Make filling meals or soup with less meat and more veggies.  Read my 50 Meatless Recipes
3. Use coupons when applicable and reasonable.
4. Have a price book to take notes of your stores' prices. Sometimes, you will be surprised how certain healthy foods are cheaper at Trader Joes or online (I love Vitacost).
5. Make some of the kitchen staples at home. ( See here for 9 Pantry Staples That You Can Make At Home).
