Homemade Enchilada Sauce - A Bountiful Love

Homemade Enchilada Sauce

One of the ways we save money is by making our own seasonings, mixes, and pantry staples. It is very economical and healthier to boot. I have shared many homemade seasonings and pantry staples that you can try such as Homemade Beef Stew Seasoning, 8 Clean EAting Seasonings, Vegan "Chicken" Bouillon, and Ranch Dressing Recipe, Vegan Parmesan Cheese, and 9 Pantry Staples That you cAn Make at Home.

This homemade enchilada sauce recipe is very easy, full of flavor, and budget-friendly. If you go a quick google search for an enchilada sauce recipe, you will find amazing, delicious, and different varieties to make the sauce. This sauce that I am sharing is a single batch sauce meaning, you can use the entire sauce in a casserole. You can always double the recipe and freeze the other half for your next recipe.  I purchased both of the tomato sauces from Aldi (less than $1 each) and I already have the spices on hand.

Ingredients:

El Pato tomato sauce, 7 oz
Regular tomato sauce, 8oz
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp cumin
1 tbsp flour (optional)

Directions:

I used El Pato seasoning because it is already full of flavor. You can always use two cans of regular tomato sauce. I have seen an enchilada sauce recipe that uses tomato sauce and crushed tomatoes as well.

In a bowl, mix all the tomato sauce and all the seasonings. Mix until well incorporated. As easy as that, make a double batch to use later or use it right away. I love using this enchilada sauce on my taco bowls and Mexican casseroles.
