There is nothing more inconvenient than not being able to cook meals during a power outage. Though we can only do the best we can as far as preparation. Do not let a power outage break your budget by eating out. I suggest prepping in advance especially if you live in an area that is prone to having a power outage. Even if you are expecting a scheduled power maintenance, careful planning will go a long way.

These meals that I am sharing can be prepared with just a regular camping or portable stove (propane or butane stove). It can be a double burner or single like this from Amazon: Single Burner These meals are only meant for a SHORT period. So do not come at me that it is not healthy. It is meant to keep you from overspending. Besides eating out can also be unhealthy. You can use some sides like a bag of salad, or veggies that don't require refrigeration or can stay on the kitchen counter or cooler.
Speaking of coolers, if some condiments need to be cooled and you absolutely refuse to keep your fridge closed during a power outage...use a good cooler. I have mentioned in a previous post that I always have frozen water jugs in my freezer so I can use them on coolers when we are camping. These frozen water jugs came in really handy for us every time we had a power outage. Don't forget to print the meal ideas/plan, it is FREE!
1. Simple Charcuterie Board
Keep it simple! You can even use what you already have in the fridge so you will not end up having food spoilage. Use deli meats, cheese, fruits (dried or fresh), crackers, any spread!
2. Uncured Hotdogs or 100% Beef and Buns
I know hotdogs are frowned upon but this is an easy and quick cook meal idea! Serve it with a bag of salad or cut-up veggies like cucumber or carrots.
3. Tuna or Chicken Salad Sandwich
Tuna or a chicken salad sandwich is also an excellent no-cook meal idea. You can serve it as a sandwich or serve it together with cucumbers and tomatoes.
4. Meatless Pasta (Pasta and Sauce)
Any kind of pasta or sauce will work for this easy-cooked meal. If you have a can of beans add it for a protein boost.
5. Alfredo Canned Chicken Pasta
A jar of alfredo sauce, a box of pasta, and a can of chicken meat will fill your family too! Add some herbs like Italian seasoning or basil plus salt and pepper for extra flavor.
6. Canned or Dehydrated Soup or Ramen Noodles
Another frowned upon meal idea because of its high sodium content but hear me out. This is not an everyday meal, think emergency! I love dehydrated soup because you only need to add water. And you are fancy, you can even make your own dehydrated soup.
7. Canned Luncheon Meat (Spam) and Rice (Fried rice)
Some people absolutely hate Spam or any canned luncheon meat. I personally love it and grew up eating it. Serve it with just plain rice or make fried rice.
8. Bean and Rice Bowls
Use a can of refried pinto beans or black beans. Heat it up and add optional flavoring if you tend to find it flavorless. Serve on top of rice and cheese. If you have some lettuce on hand and salsa, mix it in too!
9. Salmon Patties and Rice (Or Salad)
Use a canned salmon and serve with rice! Simple like that. Here's a delicious recipe you may want to try: Salmon Cakes/Patty Recipe
10. Canned Chicken Chili
This is a good one too! Why not serve chili? You can use your favorite chili recipe and replace the meat with a canned chicken.
