Fire Cider Recipe - A Bountiful Love

Fire Cider Recipe

If you are looking into boosting your immune support this fall season and upcoming winter, fire cider should be on your list to make. Fire cider is a type of oxymel (herbal remedy) that is made out of apple cider vinegar, garlic, onion, honey, and several other fruits and spices that complement each other as far as taste and health benefits are concerned. This tonic has been around for a while and there are many variations of recipe when you research it online. This home remedy has been used for generations to help boost your immune system and ward off winter colds, flu, and sickness.

While there is no proper research as to the medical benefits of a fire cider, recipes, and its benefits have been passed on from generation to generation. Also, there are also no known recipes that cite the side effects of adding fire cider to your daily routine. However, a\dentist may disagree because the acid in apple cider vinegar can cause the root enamel to weaken. The acidity may also cause tummy problems. I will suggest that you start by taking small doses of the cider before committing to it. Speaking of benefits, each of the ingredients has its own packed full of health benefits. As an example, garlic has anti-inflammatory benefits, and onions contain a good dose of vitamin C. Apple cider vinegar has its anti-microbial and antioxidant properties, On the other hand, ginger and honey have antimicrobial and antibacterial properties.

Since there are a lot of variations of fire cider, these are the most important ingredients of your tonic: apple cider vinegar, raw honey, garlic, onion, ginger, horseradish, or jalapeno. Some people add fruits to their cider too. I  am sharing the recipe that I used and made last October 2023. I could not find fresh horseradish so I replaced it with whole peppercorns.

If you are ready to dive into making your own oxymels and fire cider, check out: Rosemary Gladstar's book. You will also notice that I did not use any specific quantity, this is totally up to you. If you want to see a video of me making the cider, I shared it on my Instagram account, Check it out here: Fire Cider.

Ingredients:

Apple cider vinegar (organic of possible)

raw honey

garlic bulbs, peeled

onion, chopped

whole peppercorns

turmeric, peeled and chopped

ginger. peeled and chopped

rosemary sprigs

orange slices

Directions:

Put all of your ingredients in a mason jar. Pour the apple cider vinegar, making sure that all the ingredients are under the ACV. Cover your jar with a plastic lid. Let it sit for about 4 weeks, shaking the jar daily. After a few weeks, strain the cider and store it inside the fridge.

Note: Some prefer to add the honey later but I decided to add it when I was making the cider. I will just then add honey to taste. Use the best quality ingredients. Make sure that your hands and workplace are clean.

Some variations: add jalapeno, horseradish, apples, cranberries, and cinnamon stick

How to consume the fire cider:

As a daily maintenance, you can take a tablespoon of fire cider daily. When we get sick, I would take one teaspoon every 4 hours just like you would when you're taking an OTC cough or flu medicine. The most important difference is that cider is a natural remedy. You can also add it to your favorite teas and soups. Add the cider to your homemade salad dressings too. If you plan to give this to a child, consult your physicians first.
