Grilled Shrimp with Garlic Cilantro Sauce - A Bountiful Love

Grilled Shrimp with Garlic Cilantro Sauce

I remember visiting a prawn farm owned by a friend in the Philippines. It was surely a fun trip with never-ending plates of prawns! Growing up, we seldom eat shrimp as it was expensive. So when we get to have shrimp on our table, what a treat! While I prefer to use fresh and large shrimp, I can only get my hands to a package of frozen shrimp. A package of frozen shrimp is economical. Also, thank goodness for the deveined shrimp package. I used a 2 lb bag of frozen shrimp with this recipe but of course,  You can also always use prawns.

This recipe is flavorful and a crowd-pleaser! I also love the sauce as you can use it with grilled or baked fish as well.

1 1/2 to 2 lbs uncooked shrimps, peeled and deveined
4 - 5  tbsp olive oil
1 head of garlic, trim the top off (keep it intact)
1 lemon, juiced
1 tbsp dry white wine
1 tbsp dry pepper flakes ( optional)
1 cup cilantro leaves, chopped

Preheat oven to 400 deg, Drizzle the garlic with olive oil. Roast in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes.

Let it cool. Crush and peel the fragrant garlic.

Season the shrimp with salt and pepper. Lots of pepper.

In a small bowl, combine the cilantro, lemon, white wine, olive oil, pepper flakes, and garlic.  Whisk together.

Drizzle ( with olive oil) and heat your grill pan or cast-iron skillet or grill. Drizzle the shrimp with a little bit of olive oil too. Grill the shrimp, do not overcook.

After grilling, transfer the shrimp into a separate bowl and pour in a good amount of the garlic cilantro sauce. You can save a few of the sauce for dipping.

Serve with white or brown rice. It is also great with a bowl of salad!

This easy and quick grilled shrimp recipe is also perfect as an appetizer.  Definitely a crowd-pleaser!
