Review: Family Camp Movie - A Bountiful Love

Review: Family Camp Movie

Summer is just around the corner. We have some camping plans set in stone already and I can't wait to retreat to the mountains and just relax.  We are also looking forward to a couple of Summer Camps for our kids. I can tell you how excited my 12-year-old daughter is about this camp...VERY MUCH excited. It will be her first camp so we are both excited for her. It will be an adjustment for me as I have never sent her to any camp or even sleepovers! I know that she will have a blast and will make memories that will last a lifetime.

Speaking of summer camp, have you been to one? We haven't been to a family camp but I do look forward to attending a family camp. I know you will have your preconceived opinions about what a family camp would look like. I certainly do! Though I would definitely love to participate in one, I do think about all the vulnerabilities that I will expose my family to. Don't get me wrong, being vulnerable is a brave act but it is scary and yes, I do overthink the experience (before even the experience itself). However, I  know that it will be one of the best memories we can build. It will open doors and opportunities for every family member- new friendships, renewed relationships, stronger bonding, improved interpersonal skills, and a stronger faith if you are participating in a Christian family camp. There are probably a whole lot of plusses and benefits than I can think of...for sure we find out more about ourselves and deeply understand the connection when we allow ourselves to let family camps bless us.

I was thrilled to be able to watch a prescreening of the movie, Family Camp. I watched the movie with my 11-year-old daughter and she absolutely loved it. It was hilarious, relatable, and humbling! I  am sure that you will be able to connect with at least one of the characters. As a mom, I can relate to Grace Ackerman, the imperfect mom who wants a deep connection within the family... a new experience, and the longing for unplugging so we can improve our relationships with our spouses and kids. I am also sure that all the moms have a Victoria Sanders in us, the mom who likes to keep the peace, the mom who looks so perfect on the outside and yet chaotic (can be hurting) on the inside.

What about the kids in the movie? Absolutely relatable. They accurately depicted two family types in a Christian household. The dads? I am also 100% sure that the characters in the movie are relatable to most dads..being workaholics and competitive dads. While the movie is so hilarious and entertaining, what I love the most is the message I got from it.

Let me share with you a few of my takeaways:

Importance of communication in your marriage and with your children,

How toxic it is to only think about how we look from the outside. We love to look great from the outside because we love to impress people instead of really being true to ourselves.

Even if our mouth says we are following Christ but our actions do not align with our words and with the Bible, we are not followers of Christ.

It is okay to be competitive but have fun along the way. Do it for the sake of fun, not applause.

Pursuing of career will always have a consequence and it is usually our family that suffers.

There is absolutely never a dull moment in the movie. Family camp is a faith-based family comedy and I am so glad that I never had to worry about the language being used or what message it will pass on to my kids.
