Let me first start with I do not believe that there is such a thing as a lazy mom. However, we are allowed to make things easy and simple so we can better serve our family. When we are rested and do our best not to stress over things---like meal planning or making budget-friendly meals, that my friend is also taking care of ourselves. As a homeschool family, I have collected easy and frugal recipes that I can whip up quickly. I have all of it in a binder. You can check out some of the recipes here: Frugal Recipes
If you’re a busy mom who wants to save money, cook fast, and still put dinner on the table, you’re in the right place. This Lazy Mom’s Guide to Frugal Meals will show you how to make affordable, family-friendly dishes without spending all day in the kitchen.
Whether you’re trying to cut your grocery bill, simplify meal prep, or just survive a chaotic week, these tips and recipes are here to help.
Shift Your Mindset
Build a Lazy Pantry
Use Meal Formulas (No Recipes Needed)
Why Lazy & Frugal is the Perfect Combo? Cooking at home is one of the easiest ways to save money, but let’s be honest—no mom has hours to spend in the kitchen every single night. I also love freezer meals where I just allot 1-2 hours and meal prep my crockpot meals. The secret is low-effort, high-impact meals that are cheap to make and quick to clean up.
Think one-pot dinners, dump-and-go slow cooker recipes, and repeatable meal formulas that take the guesswork out of “What’s for dinner?”
Before you start, let’s bust a myth:
You don’t need fancy ingredients or gourmet recipes to feed your family well.
Here’s the Lazy Mom mindset:
Good enough is good enough – your kids don’t care if it’s Instagram-worthy.
Repeat meals – it’s okay to have “taco night” or “pasta night” every week.
One dirty pot rule – fewer dishes mean more time for yourself.
A well-stocked pantry is your best friend when you want quick, budget meals. You can also set aside a time making your homemade pantry stocks like cooking and freezing your beans and rice. You can also precut onions and some veggies. I have heard of capsule meal planning where you cook the proteins you need for the week and build your recipes around it. Example: Cooked Shredded Chicken for tacos, BBQ sandwiches, burritos, chicken bowls, and salads.
