St.Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland. It is celebrated on March 17 and most of its traditions came from United States (History.com). From green outfits to green treats, the United States knows how to celebrate (or party) St. Patrick's Day. In Ireland, St. Patrick's Day commemorates the death of a missionary credited with spreading Christianity to Ireland. St.Patrick was born in Britain (late 4th century). He was kidnapped by Irish raiders at the age of 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave. He did escape and went back to Britain but returned (as a missionary) to convert the Irish to Christianity. He established monasteries, schools, and churches. The first St. Patrick's Day parade was held in New York (1895).

Here's a fun fact about Shamrocks: The 3-leaf clover is indeed associated with Irish. In fact, the shamrock, or as the Celts call it....a "seamroy", is a sacred plant that symbolizes the arrival of spring. The Shamrock was used by St. Patrick to explain the Holy Trinity. He used the plant as a visual guide and became a symbol for Irish nationalism (History.com). Corned beef and cabbage may be the first thing on your mind when you think of a St. Patrick's day feast.
