What exactly is Enneagram? Enneagram is a personality typing framework or model. It uses a nine-point diagram to describe the personality types and their connection. The word enneagram originated from the Greek word "Ennea", meaning nine. "Gramma" means something written or drawn. While it can look complicated, learning more about your personality offers advantages. If you are into understanding the psychological side of a person and behavior, you will find the enneagram interesting.
If you are wondering if it will be beneficial to you, the answer is yes! It allows you to understand yourself better. After all, we all function differently. We don't fix in one box, all of our personalities correlate to one another. And that's where the enneagram comes in handy. It helps us to develop self-awareness, self-acceptance, and helps us understand other people better.
According to Britain, the author of The Enneagram for Teens, Enneagram can be a complex but diving into it you will realize that more than one personality type applies to you but you will be more than drawn into a specific type. As I have mentioned above Enneagram comprises of nine types which are:
1. Type One: The Moral Compass
2. Type Two: The Helper
3. Type Three: The Heroic Leader
4. Type Four: The Unique Creative
5. Type Five: The Deep Thinker
6. Type Six: The Loyalist
7. Type Seven: The Adventurer
8. Type Eight: The Challenger
9. Type Nine: The Gentle Peacemaker
I did relate to some of the descriptions of several types. But I majority relate to a Type Two no doubt. There were some tough-to-read portions because who wants to get their not-so-good personalities revealed right before my own eyes? It was so accurate and while it's hard to admit, I love that the author wrote it in a convicting way but in a position of faith. It is indeed like a GPS, if perceived properly it can be a tool for understanding your traits, and behaviors, and how can you use them for your own good, and redirecting yourself to a good path.
My 14-year-old read the book and she was so interested in what it has to offer. Just like the majority, Enneagram is new to her. She did say that she can relate to all of the personality types so it was hard for her to pin point which type resonates to her more. However, it was helpful for her in a way of understanding her peers. She also loves the fact that this book is faith-based and she was reminded of ultimately our identity is found in Christ. We are who God says we are. It is a fun book to read and I love how Britain gave guidelines on how we can use the types for our own advantage. You can not separate God from our personality, after all, He made us and He knows us deeply than we know ourselves and I love that she included the role of our faith.
Additionally, the book has sections for each of the types has advice and guidelines for relationship, career, connection to faith, a personalized letter to each type (very inspiring and encouraging), and a page with questions so you can dig deeper. The whole book is pack with interesting, insighful, and helpful information. But if you will ask me what I love the most, it will be its connection to our spiritual growth because you can not cosider growth without growing spriritually.
