Angel Studios: The Shift - A Bountiful Love

Angel Studios: The Shift

Initially, I did not know how to feel about the movie The Shift by Angel Studios. It is like a modern-day story of  Job. However, I am an overthinker. I kept on recalling the bible verses and the book of Job itself. In a sense, comparable to the Book of Job where Job was faced with insurmountable tests, suffering, and painful experiences. He was tested, and his faith was tested. Satan attempts to assail God's beloved  (Job) and to prove God as a fool.

"Robbed of every sign of God's favor, Job refuses to repudiate his Maker. He faces toward God with anguish, puzzlement, anger, and bitter complaints, but never turns his back on him to march off -- godless -- into the dark night. His whole being yearns, not for God's gifts as such, but for a sign of God's favor".

Similarly, The Shift has the "Benefactor" (Satan) and Kevin Garner (Job). The benefactor offered Kevin all the worldly things a man can hope for. Twisting all the truth, offering conveniences, and yet Kevin refuses to. Creativity is evident in this movie, however...I wish that God was referenced boldly. I felt that the movie played itself "safely". It also reminded me of Marvel movies with its multiverse theme. It is impressive though that the Sci-fi theme had been stitched into a Christian movie but there is an opportunity here that was missed. What I only gathered was to not give up hope regardless of what circumstances life brings us. We missed seeing the beauty that grief may offer as mentioned in the movie. It was focused on the multiverse that Kevin was stuck in. I really did not get the full picture of what the movie is trying to achieve other than entertainment.
