Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles Giveaway - A Bountiful Love

Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles Giveaway

I am sure that all of you parents out there have read and even owned one or two parenting books. This parenting gig is hard. Rewarding ...definitely! Almost all of my happiest memories are with our kids. Everyday is not perfect. I am not perfect.  I get lost in the middle of it all. When I'm tired and stretched way too thin, how can I be expected to be the parent God wants me to be.

I was given a copy of this book and I kid you not .I was already expecting that it will be another one of those usual "parenting books". To my surprise, it is not. It gave me hope and when you feel like a hamster in a wheel in parenting. Stop. Get a copy of this book. My husband and I both read this book.  After he only read just a few pages of it, this is what he said.."this book is an eye opener". This comment coming from my husband who does not read ANY kind of parenting book. It is right up my alley , not his.

It is not one of those, change your kid's behavior in 5 steps or such! I remember sitting on a Sunday morning at our church listening to our pastor's message. How we are not in total control of all things. When we sometimes want to change a person and we feel like we've done all our best yet it is not enough, what do you do next? You pray for them and reach for their heart. He also compared this to parenting, how many parents struggle with this gift that is given to them. Including me. I don't have it together all the time. Parenting is is hard. Hard but rewarding. Challenging but fulfilling. It can break your heart but it is also the source of our great joys in life.

This book tackles that. Not changing your child's behavior to what is "socially acceptable" nowadays. Not molding them to what we , parents think of what a child or teen should be. Just in the very beginning of the book, I found myself asking "who am I as a parent". This is how great this book is , when I browsed over the contents page..that page alone got me stirred. I know this is a keeper...and if you are curious , I already tossed my numerous parenting books away.

Here's the 14 Principles , a peek into the book and I am encouraging you to pick up a copy.

1. Calling
Principle :Nothing is more important in your life than being one of God's tools to form a human soul.
2. Grace:
Principle: God never calls you to a task without giving you what you need to do it. He never sends    you without going with you.
 3. Law
Principle: Your children need God's law, but you cannot ask the law to do what only grace can accomplish.
4.Inability
Principle : Recognizing what you are unable to do is essential to good parenting.
5. Identity:
Principle: If you are not resting as a parent in your identity in Christ, you will look for identity in your children.
6. Process
Principle: You must be committed as a parent to long -view parenting because change is a process and not an event.
7. Lost
Principle: As a parent you're not dealing just with bad behavior, but a condition that causes bad behavior.
8. Authority
Principle: One of the foundational heart issues in the life of every child is authority. Teaching and modeling the protective beauty of authority is one of the foundations of good parenting.
9. Foolishness
Principle: The foolishness inside your children is more dangerous to them than the temptation outside of them. Only God's grace has the power to rescue the fools.
10. Character
Principle: Not all of the wrong your children do is a direct rebellion to authority, much of the wrong is the result of a lack of character.
11. False Gods
Principle: You are a parenting a worshiper, so it's important to remember that what rules your child's heart will control his behavior.
12. Control
Principle: The goal of parenting is not control of behavior but rather heart and life change.
13. Rest
Principle: It is only rest in God's presence and grace that will make you a joyful and patient parent.
14. Mercy
Principle: No parent gives mercy better than one who is convinced that he desperately needs it himself.
