Pureflix: Miracle at Manchester - A Bountiful Love

Pureflix: Miracle at Manchester

Miracle at Manchester is based on a true story surrounding a baseball player Brycen Newman. The movie starts with a big baseball game, and Brycen had a big win for his Cathedral Catholic baseball team, the Dons.  A short time later he had terrible headache and a nosebleed that could mean a serious problems for Brycen. As feared, he has a tumor and he must undergo surgery as soon as possible. Another story plot in the film features around Ed Hanson, a mechanic. He  works on veteran’s cars for free. Marilyn (Ed's wife) works at the hospital where Brycen is and all these events and characters end up connecting in some neat ways. When the chemotherapy did not seem to work for Bryce, they were going to travel to Florida as his last resort.  The whole school led by a minister prayed for him, for a miracle to happen. You will have to watch the movie as I do not want to spoil it for you.

If you had been following me for a while, you know how much I love encouraging people to pray. Even when things are good, even when things doesn't seem like our prayers are being answered. The movie has several themes that you can discussed with your family such as staying faithful, power of prayer,  God’s sovereignty and His power to perform miracles, charity for others and your community, and lastly hope in times of distress. There are a lot good family discussion. While I don't think this may seem suitable for children under 12, you can still discuss trusting God in whatever situation we are in.

Dean Cain as Dr. Getty

God is still in the business of miracles. Based on the true story, a high schooler’s bright future changes in an instant when he’s diagnosed with aggressive cancer. But the power of prayer and support from his community renews a father’s faith and brings healing to a family.

Bible Verses to Reflect on:

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. - 2 Timothy 4:7 (NIV)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. - Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV)

I can do all this through him who gives me strength. - Philippians 4:13 (NIV)
