Unashamed - Review + Giveaway

Is there a difference between SHAME and GUILT?  It is similar but different. As explained by Heather Davis Nelson and quoted from Brene Brown, the difference between shame and guilt is best understood as the difference between "I am bad" (shame) and "I did something bad" (guilt).

Guilt is associated with actions while shame taints your entire identity. You can hide guilt, but shame would seem like it is seen and exposed. Guilt and shame lives in a courtroom. With guilt, the judge is yourself. With shame, your judge is the community.

Shame on expressing our religious beliefs, shame in accepting we need help, shame in your marriage, shame in parenting..everybody had gone through different shame in our lives. There was a time, when I raised my voice to our girls and I quickly check if my windows are closed. I was ashamed of what our neighbors might think of me. A mean mom. Because society has a way with us. People are quick to judge. I must admit, I too have moments like that even though I know how it feels to be ashamed.

Sometimes, you can also be ashamed of your past, you feel worthless and anticipate rejection. Not knowing that your past can maybe help someone.  I knew someone who is ashamed of her job. She is a security guard but because the formed norm in her mind that those kind of jobs are only for men, she failed to see how much of a blessing it is to have a job, to be able to support a family.

Shame is debilitating. It is everywhere. When you let this unwelcome thought in your mind and soul, it can hinder you from what God has called you to be.  You are not allowing yourself to receive His grace and the blessing He so much wants to shower you with.  Unashamed is a book that will give you insights and tools from a biblical standpoint. It is rich in scriptures and a book that everyone can relate to. Every chapter offers a self reflection and discussion. If  you have small groups in your church, this is a great book for discussion.  You would love the last chapter as you would find the ultimate way to eradicate debilitating shame.
