It is that time again! The atmosphere is changing, trees are transforming, and the weather is indeed getting cooler. I love the Fall season. Everything in it! The fall scents, decor, and the outfits. Here in California, we sometimes get what we call, " False Fall". It is where you can experience a fall weather in the morning, and hot sticky weather in the afternoon. Clever term huh? However, here in the mountains, the fall weathers seem to hold its title. Afternoons are not that bad at all. I love driving through the canyons and witnessing God's sovereign power over the seasons.
Speaking of fall, all the Halloween decors are also prevalent. This year, we intentionally decided to not celebrate anything Halloween at all. It is a conviction that my family had decided. I can tell you how freeing it is to not have the obligation to buy the costumes. We never did anything scary but this year we just decided to honor God more with our actions starting with Halloween. We still like the harvest and anything pumpkin spice!
If you are looking for a family-friendly and kid-friendly movie to watch during the fall season, Grow is the movie for you! Themes of gardening and tending, family ties, nurturing God-given talents, and hard work are evident in this movie.
While the movie Grow is free from the typical Halloween movie that is really scary, full of magic, and intense theme, expect to see a little bit of what others may call "whimsical". Charlie, the cute, strong-willed, and determined little girl (played by Priya-Rose Brookwell) can "hear/feel" plants. I actually saw this as a God-given talent. Charlie is on a mission to find her biological mother. She gets into sticky situation in the process of looking for her mom. The head of the orphanage grew weary of her shenanigans and tracked down a relative, her Aunt Dinah Little (played by Gold Rosheuvel). Her Aunt Dinah is not the most affectionate aunt but admired her willingness to take Charlie and learn along the way while she is struggling with the farm herself.
Dinah's town is a little bit obsessed with pumpkin-growing competition. It's funny because I can see that happening in a small town. Everyone wants to win even a scientist named, Mr. Gregory. Just like in present times, you will see themes of growing food in a natural organic way. The movie Grow is heart-warming and light show to watch. I also enjoyed the character of Arlo (played by Nick Frost), he is for sure silly and quirky but a supportive one!
SYNOPSIS

As the town prepares for the annual pumpkin-growing contest, Charlie sets her sights on winning. With the help of quirky Arlo (Nick Frost), plot and pumpkins thicken as rival growers pull every trick in the book. Will Charlie and Dinah’s unlikely entry stand tall against the fiercest competition the town has ever seen? As her pumpkin grows, so does her bond with Dinah, and together they learn the real prize is joy, laughter, and family.
