Unashamed - Review + Giveaway

Is there a difference between SHAME and GUILT?  It is similar but different. As explained by Heather Davis Nelson and quoted from Brene Brown, the difference between shame and guilt is best understood as the difference between "I am bad" (shame) and "I did something bad" (guilt).

Guilt is associated with actions while shame taints your entire identity. You can hide guilt, but shame would seem like it is seen and exposed. Guilt and shame lives in a courtroom. With guilt, the judge is yourself. With shame, your judge is the community.

Shame on expressing our religious beliefs, shame in accepting we need help, shame in your marriage, shame in parenting..everybody had gone through different shame in our lives. There was a time, when I raised my voice to our girls and I quickly check if my windows are closed. I was ashamed of what our neighbors might think of me. A mean mom. Because society has a way with us. People are quick to judge. I must admit, I too have moments like that even though I know how it feels to be ashamed.

Sometimes, you can also be ashamed of your past, you feel worthless and anticipate rejection. Not knowing that your past can maybe help someone.  I knew someone who is ashamed of her job. She is a security guard but because the formed norm in her mind that those kind of jobs are only for men, she failed to see how much of a blessing it is to have a job, to be able to support a family.

Shame is debilitating. It is everywhere. When you let this unwelcome thought in your mind and soul, it can hinder you from what God has called you to be.  You are not allowing yourself to receive His grace and the blessing He so much wants to shower you with.  Unashamed is a book that will give you insights and tools from a biblical standpoint. It is rich in scriptures and a book that everyone can relate to. Every chapter offers a self reflection and discussion. If  you have small groups in your church, this is a great book for discussion.  You would love the last chapter as you would find the ultimate way to eradicate debilitating shame.

About the book:
Unashamed: Healing Our Brokenness and Finding Freedom from Shame offers hope to those struggling under the burden of shame. This book shines the life-giving light of the gospel on the things that leave us feeling worthless and rejected, directing our attention to the God who promises to forgive and restore us—no matter what.

About the author:
Heather Davis Nelson (MA, Westminster Theological Seminary) is a writer, counselor, and speaker. Heather writes regularly at and has been a featured writer at the Gospel Coalition, as well as a contributing author to the Journal of Biblical Counseling. She and her husband are parents to twin daughters and live in southeastern Virginia.

Bravely Be You: When A Past Relationship Reveals the Brave in You

I am so honored to guest post over at Whatsoever is Lovely Living, sharing my ugly past that lead me to a beautiful present and future. And friends, let me tell you that I don't normally share details of my past. Not because I was ashamed of it but because I wanted my blog to be a positive refuge and just like any ordinary person. . I want a piece of my own life to be private. A piece that is solely mine. Besides, I am not the one who likes to live in the past.

So why share now? I am sharing my past to encourage and empower women to embrace braveness. There is so much things that God wants you to be if you will only be brave. To step out of your comfort zone, to move forward with delight and courage.

Come join me at Whatsoever is Lovely Living! Read the full story HERE.

    Strawberries and Cream Popsicle

I am over at My Joy Filled Life sharing this super delicious and refreshing popsicle. This week here in Inland Empire had been crazy hot. Last Monday was 111 degrees, it really felt like I was in Vegas. We will have another round of  crazy hot temperatures this week.

What better way to cool off during these hot summer days than a cold treat. If  you are staying in for a day and looking for a kitchen fun with your kiddos, try making Nutella Popsicle or Coconut Mango Cream popsicle.

     The Best Layered Popsicle. Ever.

These layered popsicles are very easy to make. I did had the hard time choosing what layer I love most. The chunky strawberries or the creamy coconut milk layer.  They are both equally flavorful and compliment each other.

Hop on over at My Joy Filled Life and grab the recipe for Strawberries and Cream Popsicle.

Flavorful layers of fresh strawberries and creamy coconut.

Looking for some fun popsicle molds?
