Scriptures We Need in Parenting

There is a plethora of books, online resources , blogs and magazines that tackles parenting. I became a mom around 2008  and I think I have read a lot of parenting books more than you can imagine. Some I bought , some from the library, some on websites and most other times.. hanging out by that side aisle of parenting books at Barnes and Noble.

Just like any first moms, I wanted to make sure that I am knowledgeable and know what and how to raise a child. From attachment parenting to intentional or being a tiger mom.. there is just so much information out there. I can not deny the fact that parenting in today's modern world is tough. Factors like divorce , poverty and current society makes it far more difficult to be a parent. There is one book that we can always count on. We can always turn to God's word to guide us...

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
 1Corinthians 13: 4-7

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
1Corinthians 13:13

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:13

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.
Proverbs 22:6

Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
 Colossians 3:21

Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Ephesians 6:4

Pleasant words promote instruction.
Proverbs 16:21

A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction.
Proverbs 16:2

He who fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge.
Proverbs 14:26

Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him.
 Proverbs 22:15

He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.
Proverbs 13:24

The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother.
Proverbs 29:15

Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to his death.
Proverbs 19:18

Discipline your son, and he will give you peace, he will bring delight to your soul.
Proverbs 29:17

Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish him with the rod, he will not die. Punish him with the rod and save his soul from death.
Proverbs 23:13-14

He who heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray.
Proverbs 10:17

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger
Proverbs 15:1

It is important that we do not take the scriptures literally , pray for wisdom that we may receive what the Lord wants to speak with us through His written word. Everyday we make a decision that may or may not impact our children's lives. We always question ourselves on whether we are doing things right. Even though this parenting role is not easy , it is a gift from God. Sometimes , I found myself praying earnestly for guidance , their health , their safety and the list go on ..because really there is no way to be a perfect parent.    We discipline and nurture because we love them , we love our children deeply just as our God loves us.  We will make mistakes but our love for them will make up for all the imperfections.

I would love to connect with you!

  2. There are a lot more parenting books available now than when I first became a mom. I have read some really wonderful books but it all boils down to the Bible being the best parenting book of all. I like your list of verses.
